Netflixで2021年に公開されたTVシリーズ『真夜中のミサ』（原題：Midnight Mass）エピソード6で英語を学んでいきます。
Easter Vigilとは
このエピソードはEaster Vigilに展開されるが、これは復活祭（Easter）の日に徹夜を通じてキリストの復活を祝う典礼のことで、「復活徹夜祭」などと訳される。vigilで「徹夜、寝ずの番」といった意味。

サラが自らの説を説明しながら言うセリフ。eat ~ aliveは文字通りには「～を生きたまま食べる」だが、転じて「<人>を食い物にする、完璧に打ち負かす、激しく批難する」といった意味になる。
Ideas in that direction were met with disdain, ridicule, exile.
さらにサラのセリフから。disdainは「軽蔑」で、類義語はcontempt。exileは「国外追放」といった意味だが、ここでは「（病院からの）追放」といった意味のようだ。
Semmelweis was committed to an asylum. An asylum.
さらにサラのセリフから。committed toはここでは sent toと同義で、「～に収容される」の意味。

司祭とベブの会話から司祭のセリフ。spatはspitの過去形で、spit outで「（つばなど）吐き出す」の意味。
People with it are extremely sensitive to light, to the point of burning and blistering in the sun. And very anemic.
EPPについて説明するサラのセリフ。anemicは「貧血症の、元気のない」の意味。名詞anemiaで「貧血症」の意味。
But I went to the mosque that day, because they had a blood drive, and the line went for blocks.
サラと保安官の会話から保安官のセリフ。blood driveは「献血イベント」という意味。似たような言葉にfund drive（募金活動）がある。
What if we were interlopers? What if we were infiltrators?
さらに保安官のセリフから。interloperは「侵入者」の意味で、類義語はintruder。
And suddenly I’m out of plain clothes and I’m back in uniform. Night shift, street beat.
さらに保安官のセリフから。plain clothesは「（警官の）私服」という意味で、plain-clothes officerで「私服警官」の意味。ここでのbeatは「巡回区域、パトロール区域」の意味。on the beatで「パトロール中の」といった意味になる（on patrol）。
What, brownout?
保安官が電話でいうセリフ。brownoutは「電圧低下」といった意味で、意図せず起こるものと、節電のために意図的に行われる電力使用制限という意味にもなる。

続きのセリフから。keep someone postedで「随時連絡する」の意味。
